任伯年(1840-1896年)名颐,字小楼,后改字伯年,山阴(今浙江绍兴)人。其父任淞云为民间画师,临街设店经营米业之余常为乡里百姓绘制肖像。伯年自幼从父习画承袭家学,凭借天赋与刻苦,很快便掌握了“勾勒取神,不假渲染”的写真术,以所绘人物惟妙惟肖而在家乡一带享有声誉。他15岁时至商业气息浓郁的上海一带寻求艺术上的发展,在此结识了“海派”著名画家任熊、任薰、胡公寿等,并且深得他们的教诲,画艺大进。任伯年
