在所有的“后印象派”画家中,高更、梵高、塞尚是真正大师级的人物。但许多人都同情梵高,敬仰塞尚,对高更却报之以一种冷漠的态度。中央美院艺术教授陈瑞文先生认为,这是因为“高更给人的印象缺乏人情味,人们不能谅解他为艺术而导致的家庭离散。高更从不列塔尼到大溪地,寻找一个根本不存在的原乡,这种不寻常的行径,如果没有深刻体验到生活本质的人,是难以认同的”。陈教授的分析可谓切中了要害。不过,我想只要那些对高更抱有成见的人真正读到了他在大溪地写下的随笔《生命的热情何在》一书,就会改变对高更的这种偏见并对他报以深深的理解和同情。诗人许悔之说得好:高更的一生,因为充满了热情与活力,从而使他能够看见世界、触碰世界,进而解释了世界……
