《十七帖》为东晋王羲之所书,以第一帖开首“十七”名之,是帖历来被奉为草书圭臬,视作书中之龙,其书疏放妍妙,气象超然。唐蔡希综《法书论》:“晋世右军,特出不群,颖悟斯道,乃除繁就省,创立制度,谓之新草,今传《十七帖》是也”。刘熙载亦云:“右军书‘不言而四时之气亦备’。所谓‘中和诚可经’也”。此论确有见地,“中和”二字道尽王羲之书法之神髓及审美原则,既追“力屈万夫”的阳刚之气,又求“气韵千古”的阴柔之美;既不是雄强恣肆,也不过份稳重平和,做到了收放得当。“新草”二字则彪炳了王书在书法史上的显要位置,王羲之集前
