众所周知,哥特传统对英美文学有着十分深远的影响。在18世纪中叶一本贺拉斯·瓦尔普的开山之作《奥特朗托城堡》的发表使得哥特小说迅速的出现在了英美人的世界里。哥特小说以恐怖刺激的故事情节、强烈的艺术震撼力奠定了它在文学界主导的基础,并因其带有浪漫的艺术色彩而被称为“黑色浪漫主义”。在哥特小说随后的发展中,它的影响力更是巨大。哥特小说揭示的是人性和社会最真实、最黑暗的一面,它以批判的眼光向世人讲述了一个个壮美的故事。在英美文学中,哥特传统为英美人探索出了一条与众不同的道德之路。
As is known to all, the Gothic tradition has a profound impact on English and American literature. The publication of the Otranto Castle, a pioneering mountain of Horace Walpo in the mid-18th century, made the Gothic novel appear rapidly in the Anglo-American world. Gothic novels with horror-stimulating storyline, strong artistic power laid the foundation of its literary world, and because of its romantic artistic color is called “black romanticism.” In the subsequent development of the Gothic novel, its influence is even greater. The Gothic novel reveals the most authentic and darkest aspects of human nature and society. It tells the world one magnificent story from a critical perspective. In Anglo-American literature, the Gothic tradition has explored a distinctive path of morality for Anglo-Americans.
