Objective To understand the status of snail distribution and schistosomiasis prevalence before water diversion in the Gaoyou section of the Eastern Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Methods The water supply line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Grand Canal, Sanyang River and its 3 km range across the Gaoyou Canal, and the Gaoyou Lake adjacent to the water mainline were selected as monitoring areas. Snail and human and animal schistosomiasis surveillance were conducted by routine methods. At the same time in the Grand Canal and Sanyang River set up three water snail monitoring points, the use of net fishing law and the straw curtain lure method for monitoring. Results No infected snails and schistosomiasis patients and sick animals were detected in Gaoyou section of the Eastern Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project from 2006 to 2012. Oncomelania area of the Grand Canal showed a decreasing trend, and snail was not found in San Yang River. Water snail monitoring point to retrieve 270 kg floating debris, straw curtain 720, no snails were found. Conclusion No remnant snail was found in remnant snails in Gaoyou section of the Eastern Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
