In the nuclear fuel aftertreatment, tritium enters the process as tritiated water. In order to prevent tritium from diffusing throughout the process and factory safety, a more viable approach is to limit tritium to the first end of the plant and to the first cycle so that tritiated water is concentrated in 1AW of high-level liquid waste. The partition coefficient of tritium between the organic phase (30% TBP-kerosene) and the aqueous phase is small and is only dictated by the partition coefficient of nitric acid between the two phases and the solubility of water in the organic phase. Tritium was measured at 30% TBP-kerosene
