British vortexism is a radical movement in modern visual arts and a torrent in the wave of Western avant-garde literature in the 20th century. This pioneering literary movement has long been neglected, and the domestic research results are very few. A reexamining of Vortexism can play a role in finding a way out of the shadow of a hidden history, and helps to re-understand the process of Anglo-American modernism before the First World War. The purpose of this paper is to trace the background and cultural atmosphere of the rise of the Vortanism, comment on the vanguard vanguard literary ideas and the vanguard characteristics of “Hurricane” and probe into the literary influence and limitations of this vanguard literary movement.
