The release and removal of Pb, Cd, Cu, Zr, Ni and Co in the sediments of Xiamen Port were studied in Class 100 clean lab. When seawater was added into the sediments, Pb, Zn and Cu reached the maximum within 8 hours and reached the maximum in 12 hours. The concentrations of Pb and Co in the seawater gradually decreased close to the background values, and the concentrations of Zn were slightly lower than the background values , While the concentration of Cu did not change much. The concentration of Cd and Ni in seawater had no obvious change. The results show that the weakly bound heavy metals may be released from the sediments by desorption or exchange into the seawater, and at the same time, they form complexes or sediments in the seawater. The adsorbed particles are carried on the colloids or particles. These two processes exist at the same time, varying with time and conditions.
