液态乙烯一般可分为高压(2MPa~2.9MPa)低温(-29~-31℃)储存及低压(0.07MPa)超低温(-104℃)储存。根据这两种不同的储存条件选择不同的建罐材料很有经济价值。目前,国外已有这方面设计选材的标准规范。9%Ni 钢强度高,在低温条件下有良好的韧性,国外用于建造超低温(<-104℃)储罐,已有了不少成功经验,国内尚在摸索阶段。国内现役的乙烯球罐一部分是用9%Ni 钢制造的,另一部分则是用490MPa 级低温高强钢,均在高压低温条件下运行,从运行情况和开罐检查的结果来看,对于储存高压低温的液态乙烯球罐,采用优质低温高强钢比较经济合理,而用9%Ni 钢就有些浪费了。
