自古至今不知有多少人感嘆入蜀的艰难。过去除了長江这一个缺口外,要想进入四川盆地,必須翻越層層叠叠的叢山峻嶺,涉渡無数的險江惡水,飽嚐行路的艰苦。川陕公路开辟以后,自中原入蜀比較容易些了。但也只能說在行旅上較前少受些艰苦,舒适、快速的旅行还是談不上的。至于要利用它来把富饒四川的农产品运出来,把沿海城市的工業品运进去,就更不能滿足实际的需要了。人們渴望着能有条鉄路改变这种情况。解放前在反动統治下,除了借此搜刮人民無数的錢財外,几十年来沒有动过一方土石。1915年會經草测
