由于肾素、血管紧张素及血管紧张素受体在心脏及心肌细胞内的检出,有充分证据说明心脏内存在肾素-血管紧张素系统(R-AS)。心脏内R-AS可能通过心脏神经的旁分泌(paracrine)功能或直接对心肌细胞的自分泌功能(autocrine function)调节心肌收缩力;心脏内R-AS的内分泌功能(intracrine role)对心肌细胞内肾素系统的调节和心脏肥厚的发生可能起着重要作用。
