According to the IPCC Coastline Consequences Working Group chair, a rise of one meter in sea level by the end of the next century will have a significant impact on 300 million people. Pier Verinka, who is also responsible for coordinating the climate research project in the Netherlands, said that if the height of the sea rises by one meter, the cost of protecting the lives and property of people from seawater worldwide would be as much as 13.3 billion pounds a year. In addition, a report in the Netherlands devoted to studying what can be done to save money when the sea rises is also pointing out that at least half of the world’s nations will not be able to afford the cost of building dikes that block seawater. The report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates that in order to protect industries and investment in the lowlands of the coast from sea-level rise1
