First, the preface reciprocating compressor work is characterized by intermittent a certain amount of compressed gas is periodically sent out repeatedly. The way in which gas is drawn in from one pipe and supplied to the other pipe makes the gas flow in the reciprocating compressor pipe non-uniform. The periodic changes in pressure and velocity that occur in a gas in circulation are commonly referred to as airstream pulsation. The presence of gas pulsations in reciprocating compressor pipes and the resulting difficulties are well known and many efforts have been made to limit it to an acceptable level. It is common practice today to install buffers on the suction and delivery sides of the compressor and calculate the size of the bumpers and the lengths of the pipes by calculation so that excessive pulsations do not occur in the bumpers and in the pipes there between.
