November 1, 2001 New York Book Review Gordon Coetzee SNAPAIPUL New Works Half-Life (HALF A LIFE, USA Edition to be Published by KNOPF in 2002) ) Is a long article apparently to congratulate the writer for winning the Nobel Prize for Literature this year. Fortunately, the article is not a good idea, so reading is very interesting. Half-Life is a historical and fictional work that begins with a story about British writer Maugham’s interest in Indian spiritual beliefs in his later years. 1938 Maugham visits India. In Madras, someone took him to a retreat to see a monk. Maugham fainted when waiting for other guests, perhaps because it was too hot. When he woke up, he found himself unable to speak. Monk comfort him: “silence is dialogue. ”
