Sodium pentachlorophenate is a commonly used drug for killing schistosomes in the endemic areas of schistosomiasis in our country. A large number of pesticides contaminate the soil, water, animals and plants, and can enter the human body through the food chain. In recent years, researches on the effects of pentachlorophenol and its sodium salt on endocrine disruption have been gradually increasing. The overall animal experimental studies have shown that pentachlorophenol can interfere with the normal function of thyroid hormone, but the effect on estrogen and testosterone is not obvious. Receptor binding experiments showed that pentachlorophenol could inhibit the activity of human progesterone receptor in yeast and inhibit the binding of sex hormones and sex hormones. Epidemiological data also suggest that pentachlorophenol may interfere with women’s normal endocrine function, thus affecting children’s growth and development. These studies show that pentachlorophenol has a certain impact on the normal endocrine function of human body, but to understand the exact mechanism of pentachlorophenol endocrine disruption, to confirm that it is an endocrine disruptor still need more research evidence.
