This article describes the U.S. Navy’s avionics multichannel data bus system being developed by NcDonnell Airlines at the -18 Combat / Attack Aircraft. First, the similarities and differences between (?) - 18 and (?) - 15 data bus characteristics are illustrated by a simple comparison of the first and second generation multiplexing techniques. Secondly, the basic characteristics of (?) - 18 data bus are introduced specifically, including the basic frequency signal code, timing and synchronization, line coupling and bus controller concept. It also includes a description of the basic data bus structure and a block diagram of the bus controller with logic for the normal mode of the controller and fault mode logic. At the conclusion of the report, the necessary circuit and hardware requirements and (?) - 18Mux bus specifications and the MiL-STD-1553 terminal input impedance and signal voltage versus driver rail impact impedance, voltage and waveform distortions etc. were discussed based on previous design experience Detailed quantitative comparison.
