Objective To study conditions involved in the advanced meniscus repair. Methods 48 healthy rabbits have been selected to cause a meniscal avascular zone Injury. Rabbits were randomly divided into 12 for each group. The first group was the control group;the second group was the FGF treatment group (FGF: fibroblast growth factor); the third group was the hyaluronic acid treatment group, the fourth group was the FGF & hyaluronic acid treatment group.Use 2.5% pentobarbital sodium (2.5mg/kg) for venous transfusion for general anesthesia. Firstly make the knees curved incision in the medial patellar ligament.Secondly incise the skin within patella along the inner edge of the tibial tuberosity. Then the prepared meniscectomyretractorwith was set in the medial meniscus anterior horn, body and femoral condyle cartilage surface. Use sickle blade to make a long-0.7cm, 0.3cm wide full-thickness tear in the anterior horn of medial meniscus and the central body, and then use sodium hyaluronate or FGF / sodium hyaluronate inject into the tear until stuffing up with the flat surface of the meniscus. In the FGF group, each rabbit was injected with 1mlbFGF2.0ug/ml once daily for 3 weeks. In the control group, all the rabbits were killed without any packing process respectively after 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks, each of 4 rabbits with 8 meniscus every a half months. After gross morphology and histology. meniscus specimens were into 10% formaldehyde solution and fixed 1 to 3 days, then dehydrated, dipped wax and embedding. The specimens were made with HE staining and used to take light microscopy. Results After 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 12 weeks all the rabbits were killed, and general morphology and histology were took. It is found that hyaluronate sodium treatment group can form scar tissue to heal; FGF treatment group had no significant effect in healed laceration of the avascular zone, but has promoted the edge of the meniscus synovial fibroblasts proliferation; in the FGF / hyaluronate sodium treatment group, fibrous cartilage-like tissue is different from normal meniscal tissue. Conclusion Aplication of FGF and sodium hyaluronate gel in the treatment of meniscal injury is an effective treatment for avascular zone.
