To date, most of the efforts to utilize waste plastics have focused on recycling waste plastics, converting waste plastics into other plastic products or burning waste plastics to recover energy. However, a process developed by U.S. Amoco Chemical Company transformed waste plastics into basic chemicals in petroleum refineries. This new process consists mainly of the following steps: First, the waste plastics are cleaned, then the waste plastics are dissolved in the hot refining stream, and finally the products are processed in ordinary refineries.
