混龄教育的负责人在创建小学阶段的混龄空间时主要考虑的是学生的成长发展需要,而在中学阶段,他们更关注学术学习。混龄教育(multiage education)一般又称作混龄班级(multiage classrooms)、复合式班级(composite classes),主要是指根据学生的能力和心理成熟度,将不同年龄、不同年级的学生编排在同一个班级中共同学习和参与活动。目前在全世界,混龄教育大多存在学前教育阶段实施,而在中学阶段的实施和应用较少。在美国,混龄教育因强调学生的个性化发展而一度引起了广泛关注,并从学前教育阶段进一步推广到小学和中学
