In December 1988, Aeroflot Weekly Editor Geoffrey M. Lenorowitz and a few Westerners visited the Space Shuttle Assembly Plant at the Baikonur Space Center at the invitation of the Soviet Space Administration. Here is a detailed report of Jeffrey’s observations on the assembly plant. The building that houses the space shuttle is located in a technical area built in recent years by the Baikonur Space Center. The technical area is engaged in the support of the space shuttle / ENERGY LARGE thrust carrier rocket, which is located near the main base area of the Space Center from where it can be seen a few kilometers away from the NER launch pad. Orbital assembly plant has four separate tall workshop, two for the space shuttle assembly, two for electrical test / identification. Our tour group is from the back door into the assembly plant, where there is a large scroll into or out of the orbiter
