Contribution is Soft Competitiveness When we look at the commercial chapters of 2006, it is indeed hard to leave the multinational corporations in China’s social and economic life. According to statistics, over 400 multinationals, the world’s largest 500 multinational corporations, have invested in China. The entry of multinational corporations has also made a significant contribution to China’s economic development, bringing us a lot of high-quality products, international advanced technology and management concepts, and also boosted the growth of Chinese enterprises. At the same time, multinational corporations have also made substantial profits. Of course, it is in the process of win-win that multinational corporations have succeeded. On March 27, 2006, 66 foreign-funded enterprises jointly launched the “Beijing Declaration on Corporate Social Responsibility”. Member companies will strictly exercise self-discipline in twelve aspects involving law, taxation, environmental protection and public welfare, and actively perform their corporate social responsibilities and effectively promote China’s social and economic development, actively participate in social welfare undertakings, achieve sustainable development, promote a recycling economy, donate hope projects, and cultivate talented people from all walks of life. In July 2006, Motorola again extended its hand to help 10,000 Wanderers students in the University dream. Bill Tz donated 200 million U.S. dollars to aid AIDS prevention in China in August 2006. From this perspective, many multinational corporations emphasize that social responsibility is no longer a passive show, but a voluntary enterprise. This is because international companies have seen “corporate responsibility” as a “soft competitive edge.” Through the increasingly in-depth localization strategy, multinational corporations are interpreting China’s ancient civilizational norms from multiple levels and dimensions and increasingly becoming an indispensable force in promoting China’s process of building a harmonious society.
