16至18世纪蒙古地区喇嘛教盛行时期,出现了许多有文化、有知识的高僧,他们对丰富和发展蒙古文化起了重要作用。西蒙古的松巴堪布·益希班觉就是其中代表人物之一。在松巴堪布·益希班觉的《佛教史》(即《佛法源流如意宝树史》)出版之际,笔者作为第一读者和责任编辑,就松巴堪布及其《佛教史》概略作一介绍,以飨读者。松巴堪布,名益希班觉,是青海佑宁寺(今在青海省互助土族自治县,建于1604年)的五大活佛之一松巴活佛的第三世。
