Under the instruction of the theory of English teachers’ identity and sociocultural theory,the present paper puts college English teachers and their professional development in sociocultural and individual environments,explores the status quo and problems of the English teachers’ identity,analyses the features and causes of English teachers ’identity,finds out the influences from the individual and the cultural environments,and finally raises the strategies to develop English teachers’ identity. The paper aims to theoretically enrich the study on English teachers’ education in Chinese colleges and the theory of teachers’ identity,and practically improve English teachers ’professional development and provides some enlightenment to English education administrators.
