OBJECTIVE: To understand the insulin resistance in hypertensive patients who have migrated to the plateau over the age of 60 in the plateau environment (elevation 2200m ~ 3800m) and dietary conditions. Methods: Blood pressure, blood lipids, fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin were measured in 32 immigrants and 36 first-degree and second-class hypertensive patients over 60 years old. The Homa Model was used to assess the status of insulin resistance. Results: Hypertensive patients over 60 years of age who migrated to the plateau were affected by the natural environment and dietary lifestyle. Their systolic blood pressure and fasting insulin levels were higher than those of their native place, showing obvious insulin resistance. CONCLUSIONS: There is a difference in insulin sensitivity or β-cell function among migrants with hypertension.
