破坏性地震的发生给我国人民带来灾难,也给我们认识自然灾害,战胜自然灾害提供了研究场所.我国的地震预报工作以邢台地震现场为摇篮,从那里诞生,又在其它现场经受了考验和得到发展,迄今已有20年历史.20年来,我们建立了460个地震台站;培养锻炼了一支专群结合的预测预报队伍;积累了数十次震例资料和预报经验,并在海城、松潘等大地震前做出了较为成功的预报,取得了减轻灾害的实效.当然,20年中也有不少挫折,尤其是唐山大地震及大震后强余震预报中的多次挫折.由于中国的地震分布广、类型多、各地的条件不同,地震前兆的表现形式多种多样,在对地震规律尚缺乏认识的的条件下,个别成功、大量挫折的情形是地震预报研究的正常发展过程.认识了这个必然过程,就不会因为一次或几次成功而过分乐观,也不会因为一次或几次挫折
