Introduction Soviet timber reserves rank first in the world, and its annual cutting volume is about 400 million cubic meters. 100 to 170 million cubic meters of waste wood will be produced during timber harvesting and processing. Obviously, the rational use of wood can fully ensure that the Soviet Union develops the wood and fuel needed for the national economy. In 1984, the fuel requirements for the forestry, wood processing, and pulp and paper industries were 28.4 million tons of standard fuel, equivalent to 25% moisture content of wood fuel (burnt material), equivalent to approximately 100 million cubic meters of waste.
