In the past decade, experimental (interactive) media facilities and performances have been identified as new forms of art in public spaces, while works of art have explored the interconnectivity of public spaces, interactions and new media. UrbanScreens explores how to effectively leverage the dynamic, digital display of public facilities that are dominated by businesses in cities to showcase and expand their cultural content. This research project hopes to connect and attract relevant sectors to use digital public facilities to build a viable urban community. Today’s IT integration supports the development of a new digital layer in the city that includes both physical and nonphysical space, a reinterpretation of the function of this evolving public facility and the creation of an interactive, participatory community layer that connects the screen to the space Indigenous identity and recognition.
