《傲慢与偏见》是简·奥斯丁的代表作,以日常生活为素材,与当时社会上普遍的伤感小说的写作方法截然不同,形象地反映了18世纪末到19世纪初处于保守和闭塞状态下的英国乡镇生活和世态人情。奥斯丁是第一个现实地描绘日常平凡生活中平凡人物的小说家。她的作品反映了当时英国中产阶级的生活,显示了家庭文学的可能性。奥斯丁在这部小说中通过班纳特五个女儿对待终身大事的不同处理,表现出乡镇中产阶级家庭出身的少女对婚姻爱情问题的不同态度。
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen's masterpiece, uses daily life as a material, which is completely different from that of the prevailing sad novels in society at that time. It vividly reflects the conservative and occluded state from the late 18th century to early 19th century British township life and worldly human. Austin was the first novelist to portray the ordinary characters in everyday life. Her work reflects the life of the middle class in England at the time and shows the possibility of family literature. Austen adopted different treatment of life-long affair by Bennet's five daughters in this novel, showing the different attitudes of the girls from middle-class families in township to the problem of marriage and love.
