左旋精氨酸(L-Arg)除参与组织细胞蛋白质合成外,还在尿素、肌酸、肌酐、一氧化氮(NO)、谷氨酰胺、嘧啶合成及在激素释放中发挥重要作用。从营养学角度看,L-Arg不是一种必需氨基酸。在体内,天冬氨酸和谷氨酸经转氨基作用生成瓜氨酸,后者循鸟氨酸循环生成L-Arg。然而L-Arg的合成远不能维持机体的正常生理活动需要,正常情况下人体每日需摄入5.4gL-Arg,尤其是某些病理情况下L-Arg需要量明显增加。补充L-Arg对机体的免疫、血液循环和内分泌系统能产生广泛影响。L-Arg除了在物质代谢中发挥重要作用而影响免疫系统之外,它还是一种重要的免疫调节物
