在阿多尔诺看来,文化工业是机械复制时代的产物,并通过生产和操纵公众的虚假需求来迎合机械复制时代的要求。结果是文化产品真实个性的丧失和个体文化创作以及欣赏能力的退化。在标准化和伪个人化大行其道之时,文化的社会批判功能被边缘化,文化因而成为对社会现状的肯定的仪式,带来的是对现状的默许和个体内心的分裂。
In Adorno’s view, the cultural industry was the product of the era of mechanical reproduction and catered to the requirements of the mechanical reproduction by producing and manipulating the public’s false needs. The result is the loss of the authentic personality of cultural products and the degradation of individual cultural creation and appreciation. As standardization and fake personalization became popular, the social critical function of culture was marginalized and culture became a positive ritual of the status quo of society, resulting in the tacit approval of the status quo and the divisions within the individual.
