儒家的“仁爱”强调爱的推行要依据身份的现实存在,讲究差别等级式的推行;而墨家的“兼爱”强调爱的推行不应受制于身份的限制,讲究没差别的、普遍的推行。然而爱的推行既要以身份为基础又要超脱身份的限制。在推行爱的过程中儒家的“仁爱”和墨家的“兼爱”存在着这样一种辩证关系,即“仁爱”要以“兼爱”为目标,而“兼爱”要以“仁爱”为前提。爱的推行应是“仁爱”与“兼爱”的融合。
