Currently, the major serum marker for ovarian cancer is CA125, and reports from several recent studies suggest that serum inhibin concentration may be a useful marker to complement CA125 deficiency. Increased inhibin levels have been observed in gonadal (especially granulocytoma) and mucinous cystadenocarcinomas. Inhibin is a dimeric type of ovarian glycoprotein hormone that consists of a combination of an alpha subunit and one of two beta subunits (Beta A consists of Inhibitory A, beta B consists of Inhibin B).
