FLOWER AND PLANT PATTERNS IN DUN-HUANG GROTTOES

This paper takes the flower and plant patterns of Buddhist art inDun-huang Mo-gao Grottoes as tbe subject and investigates theirevolutions and developments in following four respects.(1) Honeysuckle Pattern:Honeysuckle Pattern which emerged in anendless stream in earlier Buddhist art had created a precedent inChinese artist's using flower pattern decoration.It not only has a route of“SILK ROAD”moving eastward but alsois seen as a lucky image in China.(2)Tang Grass Pattern:When developing to Tang Dynasty, Hone-ysuckle Pattern Fringe had become well-known“Tang Grass Pattern”.It imbibed the creame of Roman Grass pattern and Indian GuptaDynasty and a completely new Tang Dynasty type was converged.(3)Lotus Flower pattern:Lotus Pattern of China was created veryearlier, but there is no denying the fact that its wide using wasinfluenced by Buddhistic and etiquette greatly.(4)Bao-Xiang Flower Pattern:Bao-Xiang Flower Pattern is aSymbolic wellknown image of Chinese Buddhism and it is the orna-mention and vari This paper takes the flower and plant patterns of Buddhist art in Dun-huang Mo-gao Grottoes as tbe subject and investigates the revolutions and developments in the following four respects.
