The dynamical processes in the Earth may change its physical properties.This review discusses the effect of the stress field of matter in the crust over time on the resistivity. Laboratory experiments indicate that the resistivity of some rock types is governed by the volume and geometry of the microfissures and that the resistivity of such rocks varies significantly with the accumulation and release of typical strains associated with major earthquakes. This article provides an overview of the electromagnetic response function that has the ability to monitor the time variation of resistivity in the active crust area. Different experimental techniques are proposed, which can be used to study the precursor changes of the response function before the earthquake. The problems and effects in correlation and interpretation as a function of time-related response are discussed. Only a few published sources of controlled and accumulated time-dependent electromagnetic response functions were published. However, the applicable literature emphasizes that differential changes in stress before a major earthquake can be monitored using appropriate electromagnetic techniques.
