上海从元朝至元二十八年(1291年)批准为县,经过700余年的发展和演变,如今已成为国际一流的现代化大都市。 在长达700年历史变迁的长河里,沧海桑田、容貌多变。被喻为“城市山林”之称园林,从明清两代盛极一时,直至民国落败,成为这座城市的缩影。在这期间上海老城厢曾出现几十家形形色色私家花园,如豫园、日涉园、露香园、也是园、吾园、半淞园、董园、梓园等等。随着城市的变迁,斗转星移,绝大部分园林早已名存实亡,荡然无仔。除了豫园被国家评定为全国文物保护单位外,其余都消逝在这块地平线上,留给后人的只是空空
