Peanuts Peanuts are the most important oil crops in China. In 1993, the country’s peanut planting area was 37 million mu and the total output was 79 million kilos, accounting for 46.8% of the total oil production, ranking the second in the world. Peanuts originating in the tropics are warm-tolerant and glutinous crops; the requirements for heat are high and the soil is not strict. In addition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, and the north-eastern north, all parts of the country are planted, mainly in Shandong, Guangdong, Hebei, Guangxi, Henan, Anhui, Sichuan, Liaoning, Fujian, and Jiangsu provinces. The peanut acreage and production in these 10 provinces and regions account for about 90% of the country’s total. At present, there are two concentrated peanut production areas in China: First, the hills around the Bohai Bay and the sandy hills along the river are the Shandong Peninsula.
