As a literary guru in the twentieth century in the South of the United States, William Faulkner paid great attention to the human development and human destiny during the social turmoil and tried to help mankind escape from the spiritual crisis through his literary works. This article aims to explore the courage embodied in the two Faulkner heroes in his short story Bear. Specifically, the spirit of courage is first and foremost manifested in an epic hero, an old bear. In the face of the ecological destruction caused by the industrial civilization of mankind, it courageously confronts mankind. Second, the spirit of courage is reflected in the four-year hunting experience of American teenager Ike. In the hunting experience, Ike has a new understanding of life.
