美国传教士卫三畏所编《拾级大成》是美国人在中国编印的第一部汉语教材。与此前为外国人编写的汉语学习材料如字典、文选等相比,《拾级大成》以汉字、会话、阅读和翻译等几个部分统摄全书,教学内容针对听、说、读、写等言语交际能力的主要组成部分展开,开始体现出汉语作为第二语言教学的方法意识。其中,对于汉字构造的讲解以及由此提出的科学的汉字学习方法,对于今天的汉语学习与教学仍具有借鉴意义。 The American missionary Wei Sanwei compiled “Ten Level Dacheng” is the first Chinese textbook that Americans compiled in China.
