单纯由字面意义来看,UPS(Uninterruptable PowerSystem)不间断电源系统可以理解成一个电源提供的设备。长久以来,UPS的厂商就针对计算机设备来设计,作为计算机电源的保护者,负责提供纯净的电源给计算机,使计算机远离如断电、突波、雷击等电源上的杀手。随着计算机的飞速发展,只扮演单纯的电源保护已经不够,UPS更进一步是做为电源管理的角色。伴随着厂商不断研发推出各种监控UPS软件,有效管理电源系统已经是UPS的新任务。在电源异常下,可以将有限的能源提供给重要的设备,而将不重要的设备,安全关机(shut down)所以新一代的UFS可以称做电源管理者。作为电源管理者,UPS的监控成为UPS厂商相互较劲的舞台,从最早的单机直接与UPS通信来做管理
