寇准出生在关中道渭河边一个贫苦的农民家中。他17岁时父亲就死了,自幼跟着母亲饱受人世间的艰辛。19岁那年,寇准赶赴开封参加宋太宗亲自主持的全国会试。在殿试大堂下,年轻的寇准面对太宗的提问,对答如流,显示了卓越的才华。皇帝非常欣赏他的才识和刚直的性格,便破格录取了他,那时他还不足20岁。寇准被宋太宗录取后的第二年,就去四川巴东县当了知县。寇准到了那儿不到半年,巴东县就政通人和、百业兴旺。老百姓亲切地称年轻的寇知县为“寇巴东”。 Kou Zhun was born in Guan Zhongwei Weihe River, a poor peasant family.
