According to the forecast of the market intelligence company of California, USA, the global non-destructive testing equipment (NDT) will increase from 800 million U.S. dollars in 1992 to 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in 1998, with an annual growth rate of 5%. Economic growth in the Pacific Rim and global economic recovery will accelerate the growth of such equipment, and its annual growth rate will reach about 7% by the end of the century. Leak detection equipment is the most widely used, and its proportion in NDT will increase from 18% in 1992 to 22% in 1998. Infrared/thermal and eddy current equipment growth will also exceed the overall market growth rate. The growth rate of acoustic emission and visual optics equipment will be in line with the growth rate of the NDT equipment industry, while the growth of X-ray, ultrasonic, liquid infiltration and magnetic particle equipment will be lower than the overall growth rate. It is said that the demand for such equipment in the countries of the Pacific Rim region, including emerging industries in Asia, such as India, China, Thailand, and Eastern Europe, will increase. The United States will continue to dominate the market for such equipment, but the United States and Western Europe have a weak market growth for such equipment.
