When measuring step-recovery diode doubling, a measurable bias current is observed and the doubling amplifier may be suspected of causing additional phase noise. The observed bias current is sometimes positive and sometimes negative. When the input power of the frequency multiplier is greater than 100 milliwatts, the bias current can be as large as 1 milliamp.
