我国甘薯栽培中一直存在着由于品种本身的变异和品种间混杂而产生的退化现象。近年来,退化和混杂的情况越来越严重。据北京地区典型调查,种植面积最多的胜利百号的退化率,已由1956年的60%左右上升到90%以上。为了研究甘薯品种变异、混杂与退化原因及共防止措施,我们于1958年开始,对几个由于产生长蔓低产类型而导致退化的品种和生产上由于品种混杂致使一个优良品种在短期内即被淘汰的实例,进行了分析。所用材料,在研究品种变异方面有胜利百号、华北166、早熟红(遗字108)、护国和遗字278等、在品种混杂方面着重研究了胜利百号、华北166、护国、宁远30早、浏阳红皮等。
