由于油菜的角果数量是构成油菜产量的一个重要因素,因而人们一直设法寻找增加油菜角果数量的方法,并取得了一定的成效。笔者最初的想法是,能不能设法选育出一种在一个花上结出2—3个角果的油菜品种呢?如果这种复果油菜果真能出现,就会引起油菜育种者们的极大兴趣。从1973年以来,我对该性状做了许多观察与研究,并选获了一些甘蓝型复果株率高而稳定的材料,为进一步研究利用提供了有利条件。
