Long, continuous and quantitative land temperature records with high resolution remain scarce at low latitudes, which ham-pers our understanding of the processes and dynamics of terres-trial climate change in subtropics and tropics.Recently,a new record of mean annual air temperature (MAAT) over the past 88,000 years (88 ka) is reported based on branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs) from Lake TengChongQingHai(TCQH) in the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau ([1];Fig.1c).In combination with the monsoon intensity variations derived from hydrogen isotopic composition of plant leaf waxes(δDwax) in the same sample set (Fig.1b),the authors conclude that:(1) orbital-scale changes in MAAT decoupled from the summer monsoon fluctuations in Southern Asia;(2) the MAAT was 2-3 ℃warmer at 88-71 and 45-22 ka,and gradually increased ~3 ℃ from the end of the last glacial maximum (~19 ka) to the late Holocene;(3) the warm intervals were likely forced by the local annual inso-lation and additional greenhouse-gases (GHGs) (Fig.1c,d).
