The Duhamel Reef is an independent Upper Devonian limestone reef in the Leduc Formation, close to North-East East of the south-central Bashaw complex in Alberta. Although Duhamel has a smaller basin area (less than 12km ~ 2), the reef rises about 275m above the platform. Based on the seismic data, we think there appears to be a reef ring-shaped raised edge about 25 m above the interior of the reef. The raised edges are believed to be formed by the differential diagenesis of diagenesis and reef complexes. This argument is consistent with the results of the integrated earthquake and wellhead data. Duhamel’s example shows that even the smaller Leduc reefs exhibit raised reef rings that are evident from the seismic data. Before drilling, in order to image a complete raised reef ring and not just its upwelling side and determine its location, the reflected seismic data should be collected on a similar whole reef so that all the reef rings can be used for drilling inspection.
