本文先扼要说明今后光纤通信将加多利用波长1.55μm和色散移位单模光纤。于是,强调掺铒耳石英光纤放大器(EDFA)提供全光传输,加上波分多路(WDM)以发掘光纤的巨大潜在容量。EDFA和WDM的广泛应用,将标志着向新一代光纤通信系统进化。对于超长距离的越洋海底光缆,利用沿线EDFA,产生光孤子以代替非归零脉冲,再加上WDM,获得超高速率的数字通信。本文最后简要提及未来光纤通信网的趋向。
This article briefly shows that in the future optical communications will be more use of wavelength 1.55μm and dispersion shifted single-mode optical fiber. Thus, it is emphasized that erbium-doped otolithic fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) provide all-optical transmission plus wavelength division multiple access (WDM) to exploit the enormous potential of optical fiber. The widespread use of EDFAs and WDMs will mark the evolution to a new generation of fiber optic communications systems. For long-haul transoceanic fiber optic submarine cables, optical solitons are produced along the EDFA to replace non-return-to-zero pulses, coupled with WDM, for ultra-high-speed digital communications. Finally, this article briefly mentioned the future trend of optical fiber communication network.
