Many Causes a Major Blackout in India July 30-31, 2012 Two major blackouts occurred in India. The direct reason is that under the condition of heavy load, the protection of a single element from section Ⅲ is triggered by a chain reaction which eventually leads to system collapse. The underlying causes are related to technology, management and system, and are the result of the interaction of various factors. Before the accident, a large number of transmission lines in India’s power grid were out of operation, which resulted in the grid structure being significantly weakened and the power grid’s capacity to withstand accidents greatly reduced. Before the two accidents, a large number of lines were out of service in the power grid. According to Indian official matter
