The European Commission recently adopted a labelling law that requires food companies to label products with genetically modified ingredients in excess of 1%. The 1% threshold is the minimum detection limit for food ingredients in GMOs. The European Commission stated that the establishment of this threshold “is aimed at solving the problems faced by operators. They are trying to avoid genetically modified foods, but due to accidental contamination, low levels of genetically modified substances are still present in their products.”
