The theme of Chinese novels can not always evade the puzzles and choices caused by the diversity of ethnic identities. However, the characters of Chinese-American writer Ren Bailian’s novel “Who is Irish” are no longer caught in the confusion between the motherland’s culture and American culture But rather appropriately reflect on their own identity based on the environment and exchange their cultural identities through exchanges with people of different cultural identities. Through the study of this phenomenon, we find that they show a new concept of identity, that is, the mobility of ethnic identity. This article first introduces the novel author Ren Bilian and her work “Who is Irish”, clarifies the research object of this article, followed by textual analysis of the diaspora identity of Chinese descent in Chinese novels, and then combined with Althusser’s “Summon ” theory and Hall ’s cultural identity theory to analyze the fluidity of the characters and their reasons.
